Hi Folks, I'm running for re-election to continue representing Braintree, Brookfield, Granville, Randolph, and Roxbury in the State House. As your State Representative for the last six years, I’ve worked hard as a member of the Environment Committee to pass legislation that protects our kids and waterways from toxic chemicals, encourages new housing, improves flood resiliency in our towns, and much more. I've also worked on bills to regulate short-term rentals, raise income taxes on the very wealthiest of Vermonters, encourage property owners to fix up dilapidated houses, and raise the minimum wage. Please find a more detailed and comprehensive list of my bills.
My wife and I purchased our home near the hospital in Randolph almost 24 years ago. We raised our two children in Randolph - both born at Gifford and graduated from Randolph Union High School - and have deep connections with our neighbors and the larger community. I am grateful and extremely fortunate to live here. I care deeply about this special place, am committed to it, and expect/hope to live here for the rest of my life.
Community service has been important to me all this time. I served on the board of our local co-op (which, sadly, no longer exists) not long after we moved to town, and I became a member the Randolph Selectboard in 2017, before being elected to the Vermont House of Representatives in 2020.
My Selectboard service has been deeply gratifying. I did not really know what I was getting myself into at the time, but I quickly found the work to be relevant, important, and interesting. It’s truly remarkable how much effort goes into the workings of a small town and it’s far more complex than I could have imagined. I also learned that with an open mind and a willingness to engage, that I could constructively work with others who see the world differently than I do. I’m proud to say that I’ve had positive relationships with all the Selectboard members I’ve worked with, no matter our differences and have a deep respect for each of them.
I’ve been employed over the years mostly as a high school math teacher, but I’ve also been a landscaper, geographic information system (GIS) technician, a mostly self-taught house builder, adjunct professor, cashier, and warehouse worker.
All this experience and accumulated knowledge inform my work as a legislator.
There’s so much more to do to make Vermont more affordable and keep our communities healthy and strong. I hope I can count on your support in the Democratic Primary on August 11. It’s an honor to serve you. -Larry
